An optimized packaging plan for a cosmetic brand

Founded by a well-known star couple, a cosmetic brand suddenly aroused attention. In 2018, they launched an inquiry to us on the website, and we quickly sent sales and packaging experts to visit their company in Shanghai. After a thorough investigation, we’ve learned that active yeast whitening, their mainstream product line, enjoyed a large sales volume. However, the existing packaging material suppliers failed to meet their requirements in terms of production capacity and handicraft quality, resulting in defects in function and aesthetics. So they hoped that we could optimize the process and material based on the existing packaging design scheme.

The challenge

Developing a packaging plan for a cosmetic brand requires a strategic approach that considers brand identity, target audience, functionality, aesthetics, branding, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. We have encountered a few difficulties during the process. The packaging structure of live yeast was a single-card folding box, which needed to be converted by the packaging machine, resulting in defects in the hardness of the finished product.

The outcome

We successfully entered their supplier list with this project, and this product is still selling well with our optimization plan. Subsequently, we cooperated with them to solve a lot of technical problems and helped them produce more main products. By following these key steps, cosmetic brands can create packaging that captivates consumers, reinforces brand values, and drives business success.

Our solution

Therefore, we decided to use double-sided bright silver aluminum foil instead of 400Gsm white cardboard to ensure the molding effect of the finished product. Moreover, since the packaging box needed to be printed on both sides, and the ink quantity was relatively thick at the beginning of the design, we went to the ink factory to deploy a quick-drying UV-curable white ink. Besides, by using offset printing, white ink was comparatively light, so we had to change double printing into triple printing to highlight the color.
